Boston Medical Center is an academic medical center and a “safety net” hospital, meaning that more than half of its patients are from underserved populations. The hospital employs approximately 6,000 employees.
Boston Medical Center has developed a human trafficking protocol which includes a list of support services in the Boston area. This list includes acute services and longitudinal services, as well as legal services and law enforcement. This list also takes particular care to note areas of cultural competency for specific providers, such as providers who specialize in serving trans youth or foreign nationals (Boston Medical Center et al., 2016).
