Prevention begins with creating and building awareness. This includes understanding what CSEC is and how, given your unique role(s) in your community, you are in a position to address it.

Prevention also involves recognizing and protecting vulnerable populations. You have learned what factors increase a child’s vulnerability to exploitation. Working to address these vulnerabilities, alongside community partners, will greatly increase your ability to prevent CSEC.

Lastly, without demand, human trafficking would not exist. Communities must consider how to address this root problem – in the lives of individuals, in our culture, and in our laws and policies to effectively end human trafficking and the commercial sexual exploitation of children.
